At the beginning of last month I celebrated my 22nd birthday. I mainly received money, but did get a few presents, including some cruelty free products from Jamie. He got me some (vegan) base products from Quinessence, the BUAV approved brand I buy my essential oils from for my treatments. These products are to use on myself though! I have been decanting amounts of the creams into little pots so that I can tailor them to what my skin currently needs. I used neroli, frankincense, carrot seed and elemi to make a nourishing, anti-ageing night cream (prevention is better than cure!).
I had to work in the morning, but in the afternoon Jamie and I went to a nearby hotel for a swim and a jacuzzi. I also had a body wrap treatment which included a face and scalp massage; it was really relaxing. We then drove back home to get ready for my birthday meal with my family. I chose to go to a popular restaurant in the village, and when I booked I asked if they would be able to make me a vegan meal. They were more than happy to oblige, and I was eager to see what they had made me. Here is what I had:
The restaurant always has a vegetarian trio of dishes on the menu, and all they needed to do to make my meal vegan was omit the cream cheese from one item. So I had tempura vegetables, which were absolutely gorgeous. There was also a mini potato curry, and a bowl of miso soup, which admittedly I would never have picked myself but I'm glad I tried it because it was amazing. I thought everything on my plate was so delicious and I really enjoyed it! After the meal we went to a pub for a few drinks.
The next day Jamie and I went to Falmouth for the afternoon. I had found a discount voucher for Prezzo, so we decided to go there for lunch. I had researched their menu, and found that the pizza bases are suitable for vegans. I ordered their Vegetarian pizza, which comes with baby sunblushed tomatoes, grilled courgettes, roasted peppers, fresh rosemary, olives, mozzarella and tomato with pesto dressed baby spinach. I asked for no cheese and plain spinach, and mushrooms as an extra topping.
The pizza was delicious and I was happy that the restaurant was able to cater for me, although it's not really a big deal to leave off the cheese! I also spent a bit of my birthday money; I bought a pair of jeans and a jumper from New Look, and I thought I would look in an independent book shop to see if they had the book that I wanted. They did!
I was so excited that I found Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, and they even had the cookie one too, so I decided I should get both! So far I've only tried out the carrot cupcakes, but they were amazing! My sister even asked for the recipe, so I'm feeling much more confident in vegan baking after having a few dissapointing outcomes. I did take a picture of the cupcakes but I accidentally deleted it! I will just have to get baking and show you some more :)
